There never used to be one organisation that was working exclusively to protect and restore the oceans on a global scale. To fill the gap, Oceana was created: an international organisation focusing solely on oceans.

Oceans cover 71 percent of the globe, and they are as important to us as they are vast. Our oceans are home to most of the life on our planet and play a central role in the world’s natural systems, like regulating our climate and absorbing carbon dioxide.

The oceans are vast, but they are not immune to human influence. We have already altered or destroyed marine ecosystems and driven million-year-old species to the brink of extinction. According to a study published in Science, less than 4 percent of the oceans remain unaffected by human activity.

This is where Oceana come in...

Oceana works internationally to direct policy-oriented and science-based campaigns that help save the oceans and feed the world. They advocate for increasing marine biodiversity, restoring ocean abundance and protecting habitat by winning policy victories in countries that deliver nearly 29 percent of the world’s wild marine fish catch.

Since 2001, Oceana has won over 225 victories for the oceans and protected nearly 4 million square miles of ocean habitat. Their science-based campaigns have specific goals and deadlines — enabling them to create real, measurable change for the oceans. From stopping bottom trawling in sensitive habitat areas to protecting sea turtles from commercial fishing gear, Oceana has been a leader in protecting and restoring marine biodiversity and abundance.

350.org are an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.

The 350 in the name stands for 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide, which has been identified as the safe upper limit to avoid a climate tipping point. By the end of 2007, the year 350.org was founded, atmospheric CO2 had already exceeded this threshold, reaching 383 ppm of carbon dioxide and as of July 2022, the concentration had reached 421 ppm of carbon dioxide, a level 50% higher than pre-industrial levels.

Through online campaigns, grassroots organizing, mass public actions, and collaboration with an extensive network of partner groups and organizations, 350.org mobilized thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. It was one of the many organizers of the September 2019 Global Climate Strike, which evolved from the Fridays for Future movement.

Founded in 2006, Panthera is devoted to the conservation of the world’s 40 species of wild cats and the vast ecosystems they inhabit.

Using the expertise of the world’s premier cat biologists, Panthera develops and implements global strategies for the seven species of big cats: cheetahs, leopards, jaguars, lions, pumas, snow leopards and tigers. Panthera also studies and protects the world's most threatened species of small cats through their Small Cats Program.
